OK, so we're not there yet, but it is coming together. Our visas were approved a couple of weeks ago and the flights are booked. We leave on May 22nd.
If you are just tuning in, my husband Peter and I have been invited to teach Acting and Art to the students at the Asian University for Women ( http://asian-university.org/index.htm ) in Chittagong, Bangladesh. My dear friend, Margaret Krusweska, is an instructor there and she has been spearheading a campaign for the University to include an arts curriculum for the students. Last year, the school brought in a Bangladeshi director who resides in London, Mukul Ahmed, (http://www.mukulandghettotigers.com/) to direct a production of Shakespeare's MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM. The show apparently went over very well and they decided to move forward with their first ever acting and arts classes for this summer!
I guess that makes Peter and I guinea pigs of sorts(my favorite animal, by the way); to see if this is something they would like to seriously consider pursuing....no pressure, of course :).
Peter has been getting boxes and boxes of art materials from suppliers thanks to the request of our angel, Sandy Goodstein. Yeah, abundance! Now we've got to figure out how to get it all on the plane and how much it will cost! Yikes! (We are not shipping because we've been informed that many packages fail to reach their destination to that part of the world, or that it can take up to 6 months!)
I still have yet to collect book donations from the theater department. Hugh O'Gorman, the head of acting at Cal State University, Long Beach has generously donated 30 of his "Keys To Acting" textbooks for the acting students. How awesome is that? Way AWESOME!
A big THANK YOU to Sandy and Hugh for starting us out!
More to come.
